Dolby Atmos TrueHD sound working on Apple TV 4K through hack

A clever developer has found a way to implement Dolby TrueHD sound, along with Dolby Atmos effects, on the third-generation Apple TV 4K. This device originally only supports Dolby Digital Plus, a more compressed audio format commonly used by streaming services to optimize data usage. However, home theater enthusiasts have been seeking ways to play higher quality audio files, such as those found on Blu-ray discs.

This achievement has been made possible through a hack that requires users to build the feature themselves on a Mac. While there is a native player that provides a similar experience, it is not open source, which limits accessibility. The proposed solution is integrated as an extension to the Nuvio media player, potentially opening new opportunities for Apple TV users looking to enhance their audio experience.

## Why it matters This innovation is significant as it allows Apple TV 4K users to access sound quality that is typically unavailable on streaming devices. The ability to enjoy lossless audio and immersive effects can transform the home viewing experience, especially for movie lovers who value audio quality.

## What we know The development has been carried out by a Reddit user named Agathorpt, who has shared their method for enabling Dolby TrueHD on the Apple TV 4K. This represents a significant advancement for audio enthusiasts looking to maximize their home theater systems' performance.

## What’s still unclear It has not yet been confirmed whether this solution will be easy to implement for the average user, as it requires technical knowledge to build the functionality on a Mac. Additionally, it has not been detailed whether Apple might consider officially integrating Dolby TrueHD in future software updates.
