LG making doorbell, lock, and cameras for Apple

Apple is collaborating with LG Electronics to develop a range of smart home accessories that will integrate with its future home hub. According to reports from Bloomberg, LG will manufacture a wired video doorbell, thermostat, smart deadbolt lock, temperature sensors, and both indoor and outdoor security cameras, as well as a floodlight camera.

This partnership with so-called second-party suppliers allows Apple to quickly expand its ecosystem without bearing the full burden of production and support for a wide array of accessories. LG will be responsible for the manufacturing and branding of these devices, although it is noted that Apple has been involved in their development.

## Why it matters The collaboration with LG marks a significant step for Apple in the smart home arena, enabling it to diversify its product offerings and enhance interoperability within its ecosystem. This could make it easier for users to create a more cohesive and user-friendly smart home system that aligns with their other Apple devices.

## What we know Documents filed by LG with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and UL Solutions outline the devices in development, although Apple is not explicitly mentioned in these filings. Additionally, LG has requested that certain details remain confidential, suggesting that there are still aspects of the collaboration that have not been disclosed.

## What is still unclear It has not yet been confirmed when these devices will be available on the market or if there will be any special integration with Apple's new home hub. It is also unknown if there will be any exclusive features that differentiate these products from others available in the market.
