Microsoft 365 cuts OneDrive storage to 2TB for subscribers

Microsoft has announced a significant change to its cloud storage policy for Microsoft 365 Family and Premium subscribers. Going forward, the total OneDrive storage will be reduced from 6TB to a shared limit of 2TB. This decision particularly impacts families who previously enjoyed ample storage space but will now need to adjust their data to stay within the new limit.

This change is noteworthy as many users considered cloud storage to be one of the primary benefits of subscribing to Microsoft 365. For individual subscribers, the reduction may be less problematic, but families exceeding 2TB will be forced to delete files, move data to other platforms, or even pay for additional storage.

## Why it matters The reduction in OneDrive storage may lead subscribers to reconsider their service choice. With this limitation, Microsoft loses a competitive edge against other cloud storage providers offering more generous options. Additionally, many users may be compelled to make changes to their data management, which could affect their productivity.

## What we know The new storage limits apply immediately to new subscribers. Existing customers will see this change reflected after their first renewal on or after May 2, 2027. This means that those already subscribed will have a grace period before the reduction in their storage takes effect.

## What remains unclear It has not yet been confirmed whether Microsoft will offer any compensation options or additional storage packages at a reduced price for users needing more space. It is also uncertain how current subscribers will react to this news and whether it will impact new subscriptions in the future.
