Nvidia Shield TV discontinued, Pro model sees price hike

Nvidia has officially discontinued its lower-tier streaming device, the Nvidia Shield TV, a move that doesn’t come as a surprise given its recent unavailability in official channels. What has caught many off guard is the steep price increase for the Pro model, which will now retail for $299, marking a $100 hike from its previous price of $199.

This 50% price increase for the Shield TV Pro may cause concern among tech enthusiasts who have considered this device one of the best in its category. Nvidia has attributed the price increase to the ongoing component crisis, specifically the rising costs of memory, an issue that has been affecting the entire industry.

## Why it matters The discontinuation of the standard model could indicate a shift in Nvidia's strategy, focusing on offering a premium product at a higher price point. For users, this might signal a dwindling selection of affordable streaming devices, potentially impacting their purchasing decisions.

## What we know The Nvidia Shield TV Pro will remain available, but at a significantly higher price. This device has been praised for its streaming performance and gaming capabilities, which may justify its price for some users.

## What’s still unclear It is not yet specified whether Nvidia plans to introduce a new, more affordable model in the future or if this price hike is a temporary measure. Additionally, there is no information on how this will affect current Shield TV users.
