X-energy progresses on its nuclear plant in Tennessee

X-energy has finalized the construction of the main structure for its TX-1 nuclear fuel plant located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This 214,000-square-foot facility marks a significant advancement as it is the first commercial-scale nuclear fuel plant built in the United States in over 50 years.

The plant, developed by the subsidiary TRISO-X, aims to produce 700,000 TRISO fuel pebbles annually. This type of fuel consists of tiny uranium particles wrapped in multiple layers of carbon and ceramic materials, providing exceptional durability and safety.

The project has been overseen by Clark Construction Group, the contractor responsible for the vertical construction phase, paving the way for the installation of interior systems and crucial equipment for the plant's operation.

The production capacity of TX-1 is designed to meet the growing demand for fuel for a new generation of nuclear reactors. This development is significant at a time when the world is seeking more sustainable and less polluting energy sources, especially in the context of combating climate change.
