Microsoft 365 subscribers to lose up to 4 TB of OneDrive storage

Microsoft has announced changes to OneDrive storage limits for Microsoft 365 subscribers. This could significantly reduce storage capacity for many users.

Microsoft recently published a support page detailing changes to the way OneDrive storage is allocated for Microsoft 365 subscribers on Family, Premium, and Pro plans. Previously, each user on these plans enjoyed 1 TB of individual storage, allowing for a total of up to 6 TB if all slots were utilized. However, the new storage quotas imply a drastic reduction in total capacity, as storage must now be shared among all users on the account.

With this new structure, Family and Premium plans will now only offer 2 TB to share among a maximum of six users. This means that, in practice, subscribers to these plans could lose up to 4 TB of total capacity, which is a significant change for those who relied on that extra space for storing files and documents.

On the other hand, Pro plan users will have to share 5 TB among themselves, which also represents a decrease compared to the previous offering. Microsoft presents this decision as a way to provide greater flexibility, but in practice, it could hinder efficient storage for families and teams that require more space.

This change is particularly relevant for those who heavily use OneDrive for storing photos, videos, and important documents. The reduction in available space may force many to reconsider their cloud storage strategies and seek alternatives if they need more capacity.

The Microsoft 365 user community is reacting with concern to these changes, as the loss of storage could impact how they manage their files on the platform. It is a critical moment to assess how these adjustments will affect the overall experience of Microsoft 365 subscribers.
